Troubleshoot Common Air Conditioning Issues
Is your air conditioner broken or not working well? Before you call a Chapel Hill HVAC professional, follow these steps to troubleshoot your AC problems:
- My AC doesn’t turn on – First, check the thermostat and make sure it is functioning properly. Change batteries or check electrical power and make sure it is set to heat. If your thermostat is working as it should, check your breakers and make sure the breaker to the air conditioner hasn’t been tripped and that the fuse looks good.
- My AC blows warm air – Clean the filters and replace any that cannot be cleaned, such as ones that use oil to collect dust and debris. The refrigerant level may be low. If this is the case, a licensed HVAC repair technician must be called to fill it back up.
- My AC won’t turn off – Your fan may be stuck on. To check, turn the fan to the “Off” position and see if your fan is still running. If the fan turns off as it should, it could be low coolant levels or your furnace is too small for the size of your home.
